Top New Guitar Releases from NAMM Show 2025

Have you been keeping up with the latest guitar gear releases? If not, you're in for a treat! The recent NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) show unveiled some exciting new instruments and equipment that are sure to spark your interest. Let's dive into some of the standout releases that caught my eye.

Fender's Return to Standard

First up, Fender is bringing back their Standard series of electric guitars. If you've been eyeing a Fender but found the American-made models a bit out of reach, this could be your chance. The new Standard series, made in Indonesia, offers Stratocasters, Telecasters, and bass guitars starting at around $600.

These guitars come equipped with new Fender Standard pickups and feature a modern C-shaped neck. They're perfect if you're looking to upgrade from your first guitar or want a reliable instrument without breaking the bank.

American Vintage Gets an Update

For those with a bit more to spend, Fender has also expanded their American Vintage II Series. The standout here is a limited edition 1951 Telecaster in Butterscotch Blonde or Prototype White. It's a beautiful nod to Fender's history, complete with vintage-style features like a U-shaped maple neck and Pure Vintage '51 pickups.

Other models in the series, including Stratocasters, Jazz Masters, and Precision Basses, are getting new finishes like Sonic Blue and Candy Apple Red. These guitars are American-made and priced accordingly, starting around $2,300.

Ibanez Joins the Acoustic Party

Not to be outdone, Ibanez has introduced some intriguing new acoustic guitars. The one that caught my eye is the Talman acoustic-electric. It's got a unique body style inspired by their electric Talman series, making it a great crossover option if you're primarily an electric player but want to dabble in acoustic.

Ibanez also released a parlor-sized acoustic (the PN50) that's perfect for fingerstyle players, and a jumbo acoustic-electric (the AJ70M1E) for those who want a bigger, more resonant sound. The best part? These guitars are all priced around $200, making them accessible to most players.

Amplifiers and Effects

On the amp front, Marshall has reissued two of their most iconic heads: the 1959 "Plexi" and the JCM800. These amps defined the sound of rock and metal for generations, and now they're back with some modern modifications. At around $2,500, they're not cheap, but they're sure to deliver that classic Marshall tone.

If that's out of your budget, don't worry. Marshall has also released pedal versions of these amps. For about $150, you can get the sound of a 1959 or JCM800 in a compact pedal format.

Lastly, I can't help but mention the Boss VG-800 Guitar Modeler. This clever device uses a special pickup to model different guitars, amps, and effects. You can even change your tuning without touching the strings! It's a bit pricey at around $650 (plus the cost of the pickup), but the flexibility it offers is pretty amazing.

What Does This Mean for You?

As a guitar teacher, I'm excited about these new releases. They offer more options for players at various skill levels and price points. Whether you're just starting out or looking to expand your tonal palette, there's something here for everyone.

Remember, though, that gear is just a tool. The most important thing is to keep practicing and enjoying your playing. These new instruments and gadgets can inspire us and make playing more fun, but they're not a substitute for putting in the work.

So, which of these new releases excites you the most? Are you tempted by the new Fender Standards, or is that Boss VG-800 calling your name? Whatever catches your eye, remember to try before you buy if possible. Every player is different, and what works for one might not work for another.

Keep strumming, and who knows? Maybe next year, we'll be discussing your favourite new gear at NAMM!
